Shining Force III is a trilogy of strategy role playing games for the Sega Saturn video game console, created by Sonic Software Planning and Camelot Software Planning for SEGA between the years of 1997 and 1998. Due to the failure of the Saturn to gain any kind of competitive market share in western territories, only the first part of the trilogy was officially localised and released outside of Japan.
Shining Force III is widely regarded by fans as one of the best titles to ever be created for the struggling Sega Saturn platform and some of the best strategy RPGs ever made. To this day, The Shining Force III trilogy has never been re-released or re-made for another platform since its original release in the late 1990s; leaving it trapped on a long dead console and mostly forgotten except by platform and genre enthusiasts.
The second and third games in the trilogy never received an official western localisation and the original western localisation of the first game was arguably of poor quality. SEGA has seemingly no interest in reviving or even preserving this lost masterpiece, so since 2009 a dedicated community of fans and amateur translators have been slowly working on translating the games into multiple other languages so more people around the world can enjoy these excellent strategy RPGs.
I encourage anyone with an interest in classic RPGs without access to a Sega Saturn or the ability to read Japanese, to download the latest version of the fan translation and play Shining Force III for yourself; You will not be disappointed.
